THE WATCH AND SOLAR TECH

How does a solar watch actually work?

Light does the work. The dial captures light — sunlight, daylight, even the bulbs in your home — and converts it into energy that's stored in a rechargeable cell inside the watch. That cell powers the movement, and any light you live in keeps it topped up. No winding, no daily ritual, and no battery to ever replace. Wear it, and it runs.

Explore the solar tech →

Do I ever have to change the battery?

Not in a lifetime of wear. The rechargeable cell that powers your Solios is built to hold over 80% of its charge for 20 to 30 years, and light keeps it full the whole time. No dead battery, no jeweller visit, no watch waiting in a drawer.

How long does it run on a full charge?

Up to a year in total darkness on a full charge. So a weekend without it, or a stretch in a drawer, is nothing to worry about — give it some light and it picks up right where it left off.

Does it charge indoors, by a window, or on grey winter days?

Yes. The solar dial is tuned for the light you actually live in, not just direct sun. A spot near a window, a bright room, even an overcast afternoon all keep it charging. Sunlight is simply the fastest way to top it up.

The second hand is jumping every 2 seconds — is something wrong?

Nothing's wrong — that's your watch telling you it's running low. When the charge gets low, the second hand ticks once every two seconds instead of every one. Give it a few hours by a sunlit window and it's back to normal, keeping precise time.

How accurate is it?

To within about 20 seconds a month — more accurate than most mechanical watches, and it holds that precision year after year without servicing.

How do I set the time and date?

It depends on your model — pull the crown out and turn:

  • Curve 40: first click sets the date, second click sets the time.
  • Curve Mini 32: one click, and you're setting the time.
  • Sunseeker 34 & 40: pull straight to the second click to set the time.
When you're done, push the crown all the way back in — that's also what seals the watch against water.
Can I swim or shower with it?

Depends on the model, and it comes down to the water-resistance rating:

Sunseeker (10 ATM): built for swimming. Pool, lake, ocean — go ahead.
Curve & Curve Mini (5 ATM): made for real life — rain, handwashing, splashes, and a swim. Just keep them out of hot showers, saunas, and steam, where heat can stress the seals.
Whatever you wear, always press the crown fully in first — most water issues start with a crown left out, and water that gets in that way isn't covered by the warranty.

What movement and glass are inside?

Movement: a Japanese Epson-Seiko solar movement — among the most trusted in the world for accuracy and reliability, keeping time to within about 20 seconds a month and running for decades without a battery change.

Glass: a sapphire crystal, the same material the finest watchmakers use. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness, so the everyday things that scuff ordinary watches — keys, coins, a desk edge — simply slide off. It's the most scratch-resistant crystal you can put on a wrist.

Are your watches for men or women?

We design every Solios to be worn by anyone — clean, versatile, unisex by intention. That said, some sizes lean a certain way in practice: the 32 mm Curve Mini is often chosen by women, the 34 mm Sunseeker is a true all-rounder (and a trending size for men), and the 40 mm reads universal but skews a little more toward men. Shop by whatever feels right — or browse the way most people do: Women's and Men's.

What happened to the Classic and Mini?

The Classic and Mini have been retired. They were our take on the dress watch — thin, sleek, made to disappear under a cuff. That spirit lives on in the Curve and Curve Mini: the same slim, elegant proportions (barely a millimetre thicker), with a more refined, more considered design and a sapphire crystal. If you loved the Classic or Mini, the Curve is where to look. Meet the Curve → & Meet the Curve Mini →

Are the Curve and Curve Mini thin and easy to wear?

Yes — that's the whole point of them. Both are genuinely slim and sleek, they sit flat on the wrist, slide under a shirt cuff, and dress up or down without a second thought. Elegant enough for the occasion, easy enough for every day.

Can I see or try a watch in person?

We're online-first, so most people order using the size guide on each product page — and because returns and exchanges are free for 30 days, it's easy to try it at home and swap the size or style if it's not quite right.

SIZING AND FIT

What sizes do you offer, and how do I choose?

Three case sizes, each measured by diameter (the face, not counting the crown on the side):

  • 32 mm — Curve Mini
  • 34 mm — Sunseeker 34
  • 40 mm — Curve and Sunseeker 40
Smaller wrists and a subtler look lean toward 32–34 mm; medium-to-larger wrists and a bolder presence lean toward 40 mm. Our size guide lays it all out.
How do I measure my wrist?

Two easy ways:

Print & wrap: our size guide has a printable template for each watch and strap. Print it at full size, cut it out, and wrap it around your wrist to see the real thing to scale.
Measure & compare: wrap a soft tape (or a piece of string) around your wrist, note the length, and check it against the size guide.

Still unsure? Send us your measurement and we'll recommend a size.

I'm between sizes — what should I pick?

For a subtler, dressier feel, size down; for a bit more presence, size up. When in doubt, chat or email us— we're happy to help you decide.

STRAPS

How do I change my strap?

It's tool-free and takes seconds. On the underside of the strap, near the watch case, there's a small quick-release pin — slide it toward the center of the strap and the strap lifts right off. Line up the new one and let the pin click back in. Watch the 20-second clip →

How do I adjust a mesh strap?

Open the clasp, slide it along the mesh to your size, line up the guide marks, and click it shut. The tool in our watch care kit makes it effortless (a thin flat tool works in a pinch). Watch the how-to →

How do I resize the metal bracelet (Sunseeker)?

The Sunseeker's stainless-steel bracelet resizes at home by removing links. Use the tool that comes with every Sunseeker (also in the care kit) to unscrew the links — we recommend taking off the same number from each side, so the clasp stays centered and the watch sits comfortably.

Which straps fit which watch?

Two things decide fit: the width and, for some straps, the case shape.

Mesh and vegan leather fit any Solios as long as the width matches:

  • 12 mm → Curve Mini (32 mm)
  • 18 mm → Sunseeker 34 mm
  • 18 mm Long → Curve 40 mm
  • 20 mm → Sunseeker 40 mm

The metal bracelet and natural rubber straps are shaped to the Sunseeker's case, so for now they're made for the Sunseeker only. Shop straps →

Do you sell straps separately?

We do — vegan leather, natural rubber, stainless-steel mesh, and the stainless-steel bracelet. A strap is the simplest way to give one watch many looks: dressed up for the evening, easygoing on the weekend, sharp at the office. It's also what lets a watch keep feeling new, and last for years. Shop all straps →

What are the straps made of, and how do I care for them?

Silicone-based vegan leather (no PU or PVC), natural rubber tapped from rubber trees, stainless-steel mesh, and a stainless-steel link bracelet. Wipe leather and rubber with a damp cloth; clean mesh and metal gently with mild soap and a soft brush. One rule: never use solvents on anything with a colour or coating — plain water and mild soap only.

What's the butterfly clip?

A folding clasp that replaces the standard buckle. It comes as standard on the metal bracelet, and is available as an add-on for the natural rubber and vegan leather straps. It makes the watch easier to put on and take off, adds a more premium feel, and helps the strap last longer — for a touch more thickness on the rubber and leather versions (barely noticeable). See how it works →

My strap wore out or broke — what are my options?

Straps take the most wear, so they aren't covered by the watch warranty — but replacements are easy and affordable in every material and size. Shop straps → If one failed unusually early, reach out and we'll take a look.

ORDERS AND SHIPPING

When will my order ship, and how long is delivery?

We usually process orders within 2–3 business days, then ship everything by expedited service — locally and internationally. Delivery is typically 3–5 business days in Canada and around 3–10 internationally, and you'll get a tracking link by email when it leaves us.

These timelines apply to in-stock orders. Pre-orders show a clearly indicated estimated date on the product page — that date is an estimate, and we'll email tracking the moment it ships.

Where do you ship, and will I pay customs or duties?

We offer free expedited shipping worldwide, with a few exceptions — we currently can't ship to Russia, India, and a small number of other regions.

If you're in Canada, the US, the EU, Australia, or the UK, there are no customs or duties to worry about, and any applicable taxes are included at checkout — no surprises at your door. Shipping elsewhere? We'd suggest checking your local import rules, as duties are set by your country.

How do I track my order?

Your shipping confirmation email includes your tracking number and a link to follow it every step of the way.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Yes, as long as it hasn't been fulfilled yet. You'll get an email when your order is fulfilled — usually within 2–3 business days — and up until then we can change or cancel anything, just reach out. Once it's fulfilled and on its way we can't intercept it, but you can simply follow our free 30-day return and exchange process once it arrives.

I didn't get my order confirmation email.

Give it a few minutes and check your Promotions and Spam folders. Still nothing after 30 minutes? Email us and we'll confirm your order and resend it.

My order says delivered but I don't have it.

First, check with neighbours, your mailbox, and building reception — carriers sometimes scan a little early. If it's still missing, contact the carrier with your tracking number to open an investigation, then let us know and we'll help you follow up.

My order arrived wrong or incomplete.

Sorry about that — email us your order number and a photo, and we'll make it right as fast as we can.

The watch I want is out of stock.

Tap "Notify me when available" on the product page, or preorder it when possible, and we'll email you the moment it's back.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Diners Club — plus Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, and PayPal. Prefer to spread it out? Pay in installments with Sezzle. Regional options like Bancontact and iDEAL are available at checkout where offered.

RETURNS AND EXCHANGES

What's your return and exchange policy?

30 days from delivery, free, worldwide, on any product bought from our site — just keep it unworn and in its original packaging.

One thing to know about engraved watches: the watch itself can be returned, but the engraving can't be refunded. On an exchange, the new engraving is charged again, and a small fee may apply to responsibly dispose of the engraved part. Start a return →

How do I start a return, and what do I need?

Use our returns portal with your order number and the email or postal code from your order. Trouble with the portal? Email us your order number and we'll take it from there. Start a return →

When will I get my refund?

Once your return reaches our office, we take up to 5 business days to inspect and process it. When it's approved, you'll get a confirmation email that the refund is on its way to your original payment method. From there, your bank posts it — the timing depends on your institution. Shipping fees and engraving aren't refunded.

Are engravings or final-sale items returnable?

An engraved watch can be returned or exchanged, but the engraving itself is non-refundable (and re-charged on an exchange, with a small disposal fee for the engraved part). Final-sale items can't be returned. Everything else is covered by the 30-day policy.

I received a Solios as a gift — can I return or exchange it?

Yes. Contact us with the order number, or the name or email of whoever bought it, and we'll sort out your options.

WARRANTY AND REPAIRS

What warranty do you offer?

Every Solios comes with a 3-year warranty — 50% longer than the industry standard. We build our watches to last, and we back them accordingly.

What does the warranty cover?

Your warranty covers manufacturing defects: any fault in the movement, materials, or workmanship that our workshop traces back to how the watch was made. Find one, and we repair or replace the part free of charge.

It doesn't cover the ordinary life of a watch, or damage from an accident:

  • Theft or loss
  • Normal wear and aging (light surface marks, small signs of daily use)
  • Damage from drops, knocks, crushing, or a cracked crystal
  • Water damage when the crown was left out, or the watch was worn beyond its rating
  • Misuse, neglect, missed maintenance, or any repair done outside our workshop
  • Knock-on issues caused by any of the above

Straps and accessories follow the same idea — we cover genuine defects (stitching, a flaw in the leather, a faulty clasp), but not normal aging, discoloration, or accidental damage. The simple version: if it left our workshop not quite right, it's on us. If life happened to it, we can still help — see repairs below.

Do you cover accidents, water damage, loss, or theft?

Those sit outside the warranty — but you're never on your own. We repair accidental damage at a fair price (below), and while your package is on its way to you, it's our responsibility: if it's lost in transit, we'll make it right. Once it's been delivered, it's out of our hands, but we'll still help you track it down with the carrier.

How do repairs work, and what do they cost?

We repair every Solios, in or out of warranty — because a watch that keeps running is one that stays out of a landfill. Under warranty, the repair and shipping are on us. Out of warranty, we assess it and send a fair quote (parts, labour, and shipping) before we do anything. Please allow up to 60 days. Start a repair →

What if I no longer have the original packaging?

No problem — just pack the watch snugly inside a sturdy box so it can't move around in transit, and include your order number.

My watch stopped — what do I do?

First, make sure the crown is pushed all the way in. If it's still stopped, it almost certainly just needs light: place it under a strong fluorescent lamp, or — if you don't have one — directly in sunlight or on a windowsill in full sun for a few hours, then reset the time. Still not running? Email us and we'll take care of it.

ENGRAVING AND GIFTING

Can I engrave my watch?

Yes — we engrave in-house, so it doesn't add to your delivery time. Add your engraving right on the product page. It's a beautiful way to make a gift unforgettable.

Can I change or remove my engraving after ordering?

Engraving starts quickly, so contact us the moment you need a change. If it hasn't been engraved yet, we'll do our best. Once it's engraved, the watch can still be returned or exchanged — but the engraving is non-refundable, re-charged on an exchange, with a small fee to responsibly dispose of the engraved part.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes — digital gift cards, delivered by email with a code. Don't see it within 30 minutes? Check spam or contact us. Buy a gift card →

I want to gift a watch — will they see the price, and can they return it?

We ship paperless, so there's no pricing in the box. And yes — your recipient can return or exchange within 30 days. They just need the order number, or your name or email, so we can find the purchase.

Do you offer corporate or bulk gifting?

We do, and Solios makes a memorable gift. Depending on volume, we can tailor the personalization — from custom engraving, to a branded packaging sleeve, to a fully custom unboxing experience. All the details are on our corporate gifting page.

SUSTAINABILITY AND COMPANY

Where are your watches made?

Designed in Montréal, powered by a Japanese Epson-Seiko solar movement. The Sunseeker is our first watch assembled in Canada; our other watches are assembled in Hong Kong. The individual parts come from specialized partners around the world that we've carefully selected and visited in person to assess their quality and standards.

What are they made of?

Certified recycled stainless steel, silicone-based vegan leather (no PU or PVC), natural rubber straps, and 100% recycled packaging made in Montréal. Explore our materials →

Are you really sustainable, or is it marketing?

We're the first B Corp certified watch brand in the world, with the highest B Corp score of any watch brand. Solar means no battery waste, our materials are recycled or cleaner alternatives, and in 2024 we measured and offset our full footprint. See the proof →

Do you have a repair or recycling program?

We repair every Solios regardless of warranty, to keep watches running and out of landfills. Start a repair →

Do you offer promo codes or discounts?

We keep our prices fair year-round rather than running constant sales, so we rarely discount. Watches on pre-order often carry a preferred price — our way of thanking you for the wait. The occasional extra goes to our newsletter members first. Subscribe to our newsletter below!
